There’s something timeless about a downtown Georgetown engagement session—cobblestone streets, historic row houses, waterfront paths—and I love when couples choose a location that holds real meaning for them.
For Melissa and Tom, Georgetown in Washington, DC was more than just a beautiful backdrop. It was the place where their relationship bloomed—where weekends were spent exploring together, and where countless early memories were made. So naturally, it was the perfect place to capture their engagement photos.
From College Sweethearts to a Georgetown Love Story
Melissa and Tom originally met while attending the University of Delaware, but fate brought them back together years later in DC. After crossing paths in the city a few times, they finally went on their first date in 2013—and they’ve been inseparable ever since.
After a few years in New York City (where Tom proposed in 2020!), they eventually settled in New Jersey with their sweet daughter, Eleanor, and adorable pup, Lacey. Coming back to downtown Georgetown for their engagement session felt like a full-circle moment, filled with nostalgia and love.
Photos Along the Georgetown Waterfront & Historic Streets
We began their session along the Georgetown Waterfront Park, taking in views of the Potomac River as golden-hour light bounced off the water. From there, we wandered through some of Georgetown’s most iconic streets—cobblestone alleys, colorful townhouses, and ivy-covered walls. These spots aren’t just photogenic—they’re part of the story for so many couples who’ve fallen in love in DC.
A Ring with Deep Meaning
One of the most emotional moments of the session was hearing the story behind Melissa’s engagement ring. The ring belonged to Tom’s mother, who sadly passed away shortly after they got engaged. Made with emeralds and diamonds, it honors her Irish ancestry—and carries so much love and legacy in its design. I was truly moved.
Looking Ahead to Their Summer Wedding
Melissa and Tom will be tying the knot this July at the beautiful Tidewater Inn in Easton, Maryland, and I’m beyond excited to be there to capture the next chapter of their story. Until then, their Georgetown engagement photos will always be a reminder of where it all began.
